about

On December 31, 2019, the World Health Organization was informed of an outbreak of “pneumonia of unknown cause” detected in Wuhan, China. By January 29th, about 33,000 people from Wuhan returned to Wenzhou. Shortly after, the number of confirmed cases here began rising rapidly. So despite being 800km from Wuhan, authorities had to impose similar quarantine measures. Many highway entries/exits were closed, public transportation was suspended, and nearly all public places (such as cinemas, schools, and shopping malls) were closed until further notice. People had to be confined to their homes. Just one resident per household was allowed to go out every two days to buy necessities. Luckily, I haven't been infected... yet. *knock on wood* I've just been stuck in my apartment, battling boredom, and recording these covers.

As a bit of self-imposed-limitation, I decided to cover a song released in each year from 1995 to 2005. That was ages 5 to 15 for me. Many of these bands were what inspired me to learn guitar (at age 12). My love for guitar music led me to discover some more bands in high school, college, and so on. These years gave me a very cool pool of songs to pick from.
I also challenged myself to do the tracklist in chronological order. It killed a nice chunk of time just putting that playlist together. Some songs fit the theme of being quarantined, some make it more cohesive as a cover album, and some are just so rad that I had to do them. If you click the song info buttons, you can read more about my relationship with each band and song.
As another rule, I decided not to change too much from the original arrangements. In fact, I tried to cover everything as closely as possible to the original. I wanted to treat this as a sort of learning experience, and deeply study these songs' composition and production. It pushed me to do things that I would've normally shied away from.
All in all, this has been quite a different project for me, and really fucking fun too. Hope you'll be as pleased with the results as I am. Now, back to writing my own songs!

Special thanks to: Filter, Failure, Incubus, Korn, Slipknot, Spineshank, Jimmy Eat World, Chevelle, Katatonia, Reuben, and Dredg for making rad music and inspiring me to do the thing.

Shout out to Ugritone for enabling me to get their RIOT Drums plugin when it was on sale for just $5. Totally worth the $45 it usually sells for. It's is a fully sampled drum kit that was inspired by classic 90’s Hardcore albums. VST/VST3/AU/AAX Plugin formats available.
