Grim Reapers

from RED TAPE by Humans Etcetera

/

about

This song began with the drums. I recorded them at shitty music school called "Love Art." The kick drum pedal was kinda fucked up, so I had to stomp it really hard. I used my sm57 & sm58 to record that. Then, I used my Jaguar to record rhythm & lead guitar & fake bass. About a week later, I recorded the vocals. They were doing construction in the apartment above mine, so I had to do a lot of takes to record just my voice (normally, I like background noise, but this sounded like an asshole farting into a megaphone). Three days later, I went to my friend's music school to record extra drums at the end.

P.s. The lyric "yellow kangaroos" refers to an E-bike delivery company in Wenzhou. I got a picture of a dude riding one. It's not raining in the picture, but I did take it while riding a skateboard. :-)

lyrics

When it rains down
they look like grim reapers.
Hoods up, on their E-Bikes
making deliveries.
They take no tips,
no thanks, just leave the food.
Yellow Kangaroos
splashing through the rain.
